When uploading a file with a name that is unique to the selected directory, the following standard Upload File form is displayed. If, however, the filename to be uploaded is not unique to the selected (standard) directory, then the Upload File form will include the option to overwrite the existing file or create a new file version. This topic discusses uploading a unique file and the option to overwrite an existing file.
From the Detail Pane select the File Upload Button for users with sufficient privileges, the File Manager: Upload File form will be displayed (users with insufficient privileges will be presented with an Access denied message):

When the selected file has been successfully uploaded, the following dialogue is displayed, enabling the above process to be repeated as many times as necessary by selecting the upload another file option. Closing this window causes the directory to be refreshed and the uploaded file(s) to be displayed. If for any reason the selected file cannot be uploaded, this dialogue will display an appropriate error message (The file-type may be inappropriate, or the filename may contain an illegal character).
Normally, only one file can exist with a particular filename in any standard directory node. If an attempt is made to upload a file that has the same name as an existing file in the selected directory node, then the following Upload File Form will be displayed:
To overwrite an existing file, select the (default) Overwrite the existing file option. Note, however, the process is irreversible and there is no mechanism to retrieve the overwritten file. A user attempting to overwrite a file for which they do not have adequate permissions will be presented with an error message and the overwrite operation will be cancelled.
Selecting the second option, Create a new file version is discussed in Uploading Multiple Files.
